Cannabis Epilepsy Research shows CBD to be an effective treatment for Epilepsy

CBD Facts Relating to Cannabis Epilepsy Research

Cannabidiol is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid and is the active ingredient in medicinal hemp products from Kratom Divine. This information is provided as a resource for you.

  • Completely non-psychoactive. It is safe and non-toxic. Can never over-dose on CBD.
  • It is the second most common cannabinoid in cannabis sativa and indica plants and the primary cannabinoid in hemp plants.
  • Counters some of the negative effects of THC (ie. paranoia, intoxication, quick heartbeat (tachycardia) short term memory loss, lethargy/sedation, etc.).
  • Combining THC and CBD have been found to increase clinical efficacy while reducing adverse effects, even with only trace amounts of THC (CBD works synergistically with THC, bolstering its medical effects while moderating its psychoactivity).

Cannabis Epilepsy Research Reveals Many of The Medical benefits of CBD

Cannabis epilepsy research has shown that CBD has been found to relieve convulsions and other movement disorders- it’s an anti-spasmodic and antiepileptic.

At high doses (more than a few hundred mg) CBD can be sedative and helps insomniacs stay asleep longer. In low doses, CBD has been found to be alerting.

It is also effective in reducing inflammation (anti-inflammatory), anxiety (anxiolytic), and nausea (anti-emetic).

It is a powerful pain reliever (analgesic). It is effective in both peripheral neuropathic pain and central pain.

It has been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth (anti-carcinogenic).

It is an immunomodulator and helps the immune system function more efficiently.

It is a neuroprotectant and a powerful antioxidant. It has applications in treatment for Alzheimer’s, Parkinsons, cerebral ischemia, and brain and nerve damage from stroke.

It is an anti-psychotic and recent research has indicated it is effective in treatment of schizophrenia.

CBD could be effective in easing symptoms of a wide range of difficult-to-control conditions, including: rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, alcoholism, PTSD, epilepsy, MS, antibiotic-resistant infections and neurological disorders, to name just a few.

It has also been found to be effective in treating gastrointestinal disorders like IBD and Crohn’s Disease.

Cannabis Epilepsy Research has found 30% of cases to be resistant to standard treatment strengthening the case for CBD

Interestingly, cannabis has been recognized as an epilepsy treatment ever since it’s introduction to Western medicine back in the 1840’s. Modern day studies now suggest a role of the Endocannabinoid system in seizure activity and seem to support the use of cannabis as an alternative to traditional drugs.

Epilepsy affects approximately 50 million people worldwide, causing frequent and unpredictable seizures that cannot be cured. While long-term drug therapy can help most patients control their seizures, about 30% of cases are resistant to standard treatments. Here is where Cannabis Epilepsy Research comes in.

Here is a report of a parent survey of cannabidiol-enriched cannabis use in pediatric treatment-resistant epilepsy we found at: Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy (CURE): http://www.cureepilepsy.org/research/cbd-and-epilepsy.asp

A direct report from Cannabis Epilepsy Research – The authors reported on a survey which explored the use of cannabidiol-enriched cannabis in a small number of children with treatment-resistant epilepsy.

Sixteen (84%) of the 19 parents reported a reduction in their child’s seizure frequency while taking cannabidiol-enriched cannabis. Of these, two (11%) reported complete seizure freedom, eight (42%) reported a greater than 80% reduction in seizure frequency, and six (32%) reported a 25-60% seizure reduction.

Other beneficial effects included increased alertness, better mood, and improved sleep. Side effects included drowsiness and fatigue.

This is what the article reported:

“At a ceremony on July 20, Gov. Pat Quinn signed the law which adds seizures to the list of conditions that can be treated with medical-grade cannabis. It stipulates that adults who suffer from epilepsy will be permitted to smoke medical marijuana, but children will b able to take “non-smokable forms of medical marijuana”. The law holds much potential to alleviate the suffering of people with intractable epilepsy”.
